Thule Strap Rack Recall

Thule is recalling its Backway, Speedway and Freeway racks, which have failed to securely hold bikes in a few cases. The recall, which affects all three models in Thule's new Strap Rack line, is being carried out in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

The racks are deficient in two areas. The bike-arm frame cradles and positioning spring pins could fail allowing the mounted bike to fall off. There have been no reported injuries associated with rack failures.

The affected 2002 models were sold between January and August of 2002 and include the:

  • Backpack 965/966
  • Speedway 961/962 and 91962
  • Freeway 960

If you have one of the affected racks, stop using it immediately and bring it to us for repair or replacement. For more information, call Thule at 800-848-5391.
